It is best for a first-time Webmaster to choose a dark text on a very light background, or light text on a very dark background.

Selecting Background and Text Color

  • Move the pointer to "Format" at the top of the page.
  • Click on "Format". A menu opens down. 
  • Move the pointer down to "Background...", and click on "Background...". A box opens.

Choosing Background Color
Near the middle of the box, find the word "Colors"; look just below it and find "Background:" followed by a bar that displays “Automatic”. The automatic background color is white.

To choose a different color for the page's background:

  • Move the mouse pointer to the down arrow (triangle), and click on it.

A box opens with more color choices.

  • Choose a color from the list for your background and click on it.

Choose Text Color
Below "Background:" is the word "Text:" followed by a bar that also displays “Automatic.” The automatic text color is black.

To choose a different color for the page's text:

  • Move the mouse pointer to the down arrow (triangle), and click on it.

A box opens with more color choices.

  • Choose a color from the list for your text and click on it.

When these steps are complete:

  • Move the pointer to the bottom of the box and click on the button labeled "OK".
