Purpose
These instructions will help you use the 6300C Hewlett Packard Scan Jet scanner located in the Writing Center. It is suggested that
you print these instructions for ease of use, to avoid toggling between two screens.

Starting Software
The first step is to log in to the computer. Next, click the Windows Start button. From the start menu, choose All Programs, then
choose Accessories, then choose Scanner and Camera Wizard. The Scanner and Camera Wizard window will appear.
Placing Image
- From the Scanner and Camera Wizard window select the Next button.

- Now you need to open the lid on the scanner. Place the image or document you wish to scan face down, and square it up with the
upper left corner of the scanner. This will align your image so it looks straight when scanned. Finally, close the scanner lid.
Note: Do not place any heavy or very large objects on the scanner bed. This may break the glass.

Previewing Image
- From the Scanner and Camera Wizard window select picture type. Choices include
Color picture (default), Grayscale
picture, Black and white picture or text, and and Custom.
- Next, click the Preview button. Wait for the scanner to perform a preview scan of your image. The image will appear in the
Scanner and Camera Wizard window preview box after the scan preview is done.
Selecting Image
- After the image is displayed in the Scanner and Camera
Wizard window, you can edit the image to your liking and check if the image is aligned properly on the scanner bed.
- Use the four squares located on the corners of the displayed image to select the part of the image you wish to scan.

- The enlarge button,
, can be used if you want your selected area to fill the entire page.
- Clicking the show button,
, will reselect the area you want to scan.
Saving Image
- Click the Next button when you are satisfied with the selection.
- You can then name your image in the space provided for picture name.
- Select the file format you want to store your picture in. JPG is the default file format and works well within Microsoft Word and other software programs.
- Select a destination where you would like to store your image, i.e. floppy, your M drive, or a CD. Click the
Next button to scan the image.

Finalizing Scan
- When the scanner is done scanning, a message will pop up in the
Scanner and Camera Wizard window saying, "your picture has been successfully copied to your computer or network."

- Click the Next button to move on. Another Scanner
and Camera Wizard window comes up and you will be prompted to finish your project.
- Click Finish to close the Scanner and Camera Wizard
window.
- Then open the scanner and remove your image from the scanner bed. Finally, close the scanner lid.
- You have now successfully finished scanning your image to the destination you chose. You can now insert the image into the program of your choice.
