Interests

I am an assistant professor of sociology and social informatics at Indiana University South Bend and affiliated faculty of the Program on Philanthropy at IUPUI and the Center for the Study of Social Movements at the University of Notre Dame. My areas of specialization are economic and organizational sociology, science and technology studies, sociological theory, social movements, and qualitative research methods. In the past, I have studied for-profit/nonprofit relations, the politics of free/open source software, civic engagement and mobilization in institutionalized social movement organizations, and technology in the nonprofit sector.

My research focuses on how organizations and individuals translate their interests into moral claims to create opportunities for themselves while reconfiguring fields. Most recently, I have begun a study of the socio-economics of farmers markets.
