TRANSITION TO TEACHING at IU SOUTH BEND
ABOUT THE TRANSITION TO TEACHING PROGRAM
The Transition to Teaching (T2T) Program at IU South Bend is a cohort-based, alternative-route-to-licensure program designed for students with a bachelor's degree who want to become licensed teachers in the state of Indiana. The rigorous, field-based program is appropriate for mid-career changers or recent graduates. To participate in the program, applicants must meet minimum GPA and bachelor's degree requirements as well as additional admission requirements.
GENERAL INFORMATION
The IU South Bend Transition to Teaching Program (T2T) offers both an elementary and a secondary cohort. Please refer to the appropriate column.

The bachelor's degreeMUST be in the subject the individual intends to teach or the applicant must provide transcript evidence of coursework equal to a major in the subject area. If your bachelor's degree GPA is 2.499 or below, you do not qualify for Transition to Teaching. If your bachelor's degree GPA is between 2.50 and 2.999, but you do not have 5 years professional experience, you do not qualify for Transition to Teaching. |

Passing scores on Praxis I Beginning with the cohort admitted in 2010, applicants will also need to provide passing scores on the Praxis II content knowledge exam to be admitted to the program. See the ETS web site for details on Praxis II |
| Field Work Expectation | Students will be assigned field work in an elementary school one day per week during the first two semesters (fall and spring). | 30 hours of field work in the fall semester. Approximately 3 hours weekly for 10 weeks. |

APPLICATION AND ADMISSION
To apply to either the elementary or secondary Transition to Teaching Programs, begin by filling out the online IU application for graduate school here. Please note, there is an application fee of $45.

After you've completed the online application process, you must meet with an academic advisor prior to turning in packet. This check list (ELEMENTARY Check List / SECONDARY Check List) will be completed with an advisor and must be included in your complete admissions packet.
Gather the following in anticipation of your meeting with an advisor:
- Current resume
- Self Assessment form (Secondary applicants only)
or
Disposition Form (Elementary applicants only).- If the cumulative GPA in your bachelor's degree is between 2.50 to 2.99, this work verification form of related professional work experience including dates, employers and phone numbers. Secondary applicants to whom this applies: please read this for a definition of professional work experience in the subject the individual intends to teach.
- Official transcripts from all the colleges and universities other than Indiana University
- Limited Criminal History Report using this criminal history form. Print out and fill in the blank spaces and send it to the State Police with required fee. Optionally, you can access your criminal history report on-line at On-line Criminal History.
- Two letters of recommendation (if not completed at the end of the on-line application)

In addition to the above materials, you must take the Praxis I exam (all three sections: mathematics, reading, and writing) and arrange to have your scores sent to IU South Bend.
