What is Titan Productions?
Titan Productions is an IU South Bend student organization, whose purpose is to plan and present non-academic entertainment and educational programs primarily for the student body of IU South Bend, although the programs are normally open the general public.

What types of programs does Titan Productions present?
The types of programs presented vary somewhat from year to year, as entertainment trends and students change. Most recently the programs presented have included:

• Family Movie Nights • Comedy Club
• Acoustic Café Open Mic • Battle of the Bands
• Acoustic Café with Guest Artists • Hypnotist
• Final Showdown • Mentalist
• Welcome Week  

How involved are the students in the events sponsored by Titan Productions?
The students are Titan Productions, meaning that they review and select potential performers/programs; market, plan, and produce the events and all relevant components; and evaluate all aspects of the programs upon completion.

What is the structure of Titan Productions?
Titan Productions is comprised of two levels of involved students, producers and crew. The producers are the executives of the organization, with specific roles and responsibilities. The crew are students interested in assisting in any aspect of the organization, especially the selection and presentation of the programs.

What does a producer do?
As stated previously, the producers are the executives of the organization, and are each responsible for specific roles within Titan Productions. There is an office hour requirement for all producers, as shown:

  • Executive Producer – 15-20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters
  • Producer – 10-12 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters

Currently, there are six producers in the areas listed below, an explanation of the responsibilities:

Executive Producer:

  • Serve as student manager of Titan Productions
  • Facilitate a weekly staff meeting
  • Manage and maintain the Titan Productions budget
  • Facilitate group decisions on event planning and performer selection
  • Complete program evaluation, with input from staff
  • Reserve facilities for Titan Productions events
  • Manage performer contracts, including preliminary negotiations of performance contracts
  • Meet weekly with the Titan Productions advisor
Hospitality Producer:
  • Ensure that Titan Productions performers' hospitality needs are met, including special food requests, hotel reservations, and other needs; as specified in performer contracts
  • Organize and send Titan Productions information packet, including campus and hotel information and driving directions
  • Compile and present onsite hospitality package for each performer, being sure to include copies of all event publicity, including event flyers and newspaper articles
  • Send thank-you notes to performers, special guests, and major supporters following each event, making sure to include copies of event reviews
  • Manage public refreshments/concessions at Titan Productions events
Managing Producer:
  • Organize the Titan Productions office
  • Keep official minutes of Titan Productions staff meetings
  • Assist executive producer with necessary purchasing paperwork, budget, and contracts
  • Maintain positive communication with campus clubs and organizations about Titan Productions events
  • Prepare and maintain event planning calendars on all events
  • Work Titan Productions information tables
  • Take photos during Titan Productions events and maintain a file of event pictures
  • Have performer sign a copy of their promotional photo and/or event promotion flyer
  • Communicate Web site changes to Webmaster
Marketing Producer:
  • Create posters and/or flyers for Titan Productions events and staff/crew recruitment
  • Maintain all Titan Productions promotional outlets, including Velcro banner, window clings, and portable bulletin boards
  • Identify appropriate special interest target audiences for Titan Productions events
  • Write and distribute press releases to all local media outlets
  • Maintain Titan Productions presence on MySpace, FaceBook, and other appropriate electronic promotions sites
  • Maintain files of all Titan Productions marketing materials
Production Producer:
  • Set up and operate necessary sound, lighting, and projection equipment for Titan Productions
  • Train other members of the Titan Productions staff on the set up and operation of sound, lighting, and projection equipment
  • Organize and maintain all Titan Productions sound and lighting equipment, making recommendations for additional equipment purchases
  • Review performer contracts and riders to determine specific sound and lighting needs and coordinate the rental/borrowing of necessary equipment not already owned by Titan Productions
Recruitment and Retention Producer:
  • Create surveys about the entertainment preferences of IU South Bend students
  • Reserve tables to promote recruitment of Titan Productions crew members
  • Work with the marketing producer to develop marketing materials promoting involvement in Titan Productions
  • Maintain a listing of Titan Productions crew members and coordinate communications with crew members regarding opportunities for them to assist with Titan Productions events

What does the crew do?
The crew is an indispensable component of Titan Productions, by assisting the producers in completing of the large volume of diverse tasks necessary to present the demanding calendar of events that comprise Titan Productions.

What are the benefits of being a member of Titan Productions?
Students that get involved, as either producers or crew, in Titan Productions share in the accomplishments of the organization, and as such are provided with an educational opportunity in which they can further develop skills in group interaction, management, event planning, budgeting, contract negotiation, etc., while offering entertainment and educational programs to members of the IU South Bend community.

An additional benefit for executive producers and producers is that they are paid hourly for their office hours and for the commitment of time and efforts to the success of Titan Productions. The hourly rates are listed below:

  • Executive Producer - $8.00
  • Producers - $7.00
Producers, and occasionally members of the crew, also have the opportunity to attend regional student activities conferences, at which they can interact with their peers from other colleges and universities, learn ways of improving events at IU South Bend, and see sample performances of entertainers/programs available to the college market.
