Japanese culture is diverse and spans a range of geographical locations from mainland Japan to outlying islands and prefectures (states) including Okinawa.  Currently, most information on this page is related to Okinawan culture. Keep in mind that describing Southern culture or California culture as U.S. culture provides quite different views of the U.S.  So, too does Okinawa offer one distinctive perspective of Japanese culture.
