The IU South Bend Alumni Association Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes outstanding IU South Bend alumni who have made significant contributions to their communities or professions. Any living IU South Bend alum is eligible for nomination. The Distinguished Alumni Award is presented during IU South Bend's annual Commencement ceremony.

The 2019 Distinguished Alumni Award was presented to Robert H. Johnson. He served in several executive-level positions at Fortune 500 companies, including president of Sprint’s consumer business, area president and chief customer officer of Frontier Communications, executive vice president for AT&T Wireless, and president of AT&T Aviation Communications.
