Scholarship Art Sale raises over $4000 for IU South Bend artists, student scholarships
In early November, the 2012 “LOOK!” Scholarship Art Sale was in full swing. The East Lounge of Northside Hall overflowed with artwork created by IU South Bend fine arts and new media students, faculty, and alumni.
“A rich and diverse collection of artwork paired with the largest group of volunteers we’ve ever had made this year’s art sale a terrific experience for everyone involved,” said Michele Morgan-Dufour, director of community outreach for the Raclin School of the Arts.
When the sale came to a close, patrons of the event had purchased over $4000 worth of artwork. About $1300 of this will go towards funding scholarships for art students at IU South Bend.
The sale was also an opportunity for art students to gain experience in the business of packaging, marketing, and selling their art.
“It isn’t enough to graduate trained artists,” says Morgan-Dufour. “They also need the marketing skills to take their work to the marketplace. Year after year the annual art sale is the laboratory where our students take the step from making art to becoming professional artists, savvy about their artwork and the business of art.”
Thank you to everyone who submitted art, volunteered their time, or purchased a work of art!
