"Teddy Bear Concert" supports South Bend Center for the Homeless

bearsCelebrate the season with music, dancing, and the spirit of generosity at IU South Bend’s annual “Teddy Bear Concert.”

For the fourth year, the concert will feature the collection of teddy bears for charity with this year’s donations going to the South Bend Center for the Homeless. The concert is also sponsored by Build-A-Bear Workshops, Inc.*

As the school of the arts’ ensemble in residence, the South Bend Symphonic Choir will be joined on stage by the IU South Bend Chorale, Chamber Choir, and Gospel Choir to perform seasonal anthems and gospel selections. Pieces will include “What Sweeter Music” for choir and harp, “Cool Yule” featuring jazz clarinet, and “Betelehemu,” a Nigerian Christmas song featuring African drummers and dancers. The IUSB Jazz Ensemble will perform with the newly-formed IU South Bend tap dance troupe.

The performance will close with a magical performance of "The 12 Days of Christmas" by the combined choirs, dance studio, Philharmonic, and wind ensembles.

The donated teddy bears will help the children of families living at the Center for Homeless have a happy holiday season. The center is in its 24th year of operation, helping break the cycle of homelessness by offering job training and placement programs, personal development, and housing programs.

The concert will be held on Friday, December 7, at 7:30 pm in the Northside Campus Auditorium.

Teddy Bears should be new and will be accepted in exchange for concert tickets. Tickets will also be available for sale for $7-$12 through the arts box office. Box office hours are 11 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday and one hour prior to the concert. For more information and to get tickets online visit or call 574.520.4203.
