2012 “LOOK!” Scholarship Art Sale supports scholarships, provides learning opportunity

Mike, pastel by Andrew AvaraIU South Bend students, faculty, and alumni of visual arts and new media are teaming up to present the seventh annual “LOOK!” Scholarship Art Sale from November 8-10 in Northside Hall’s East Lounge. The art sale is a trademark event for the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts, featuring paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, jewelry, mixed media, and photography created by the school’s artists.

The annual Scholarship Art Sale is both a scholarship fundraiser and a hands-on learning experience acquainting undergraduate students with the business of art.

“The sale helps student artists learn skills they’ll need to be successful, from presenting and pricing their art to establishing relationships with patrons,” says Michele Morgan-Dufour, director of community outreach for the Raclin School of the Arts. “Many student artists have made their first sale at the Scholarship Art Sale,” says Morgan-Dufour. “Seeing the excitement of a newly-minted professional artist is very gratifying for the patrons and sale organizers.”

Thirty-five percent of sales will support scholarships for IU South Bend art students. Sixty-five percent of sales go directly to the artist. Past events have included over 500 pieces of art from 50 art sale participants.
