Students exhibit artwork from Florence, Italy summer program
Visual arts students will present an exhibition of their artwork from a recent trip to Florence, Italy in a show titled Magnitude 11 x17. The exhibition opens on Thursday, September 13, and runs through Friday, September 28.
Students embarked on a one month trip overseas this past summer to study in Florence, Italy and surrounding areas. Participating students were Sarah DeMaegd, Jamie DePriest, Audra Dormire, Tiffany Gilbert, Rubia Hagens, Michelle Lilly, Katherine Marsh, Nicole Rininger, Rebecca Shaffer, Janet Sorensen, and Katie Swiental.
The students had access to painting facilities, classrooms, and gallery space at Santa Reparata International School of Art to further develop their creative ideas into projects while in Italy.
The program was taught by Assistant Professor Ron Monsma and Associate Professor Dora Natella. They give a special thanks to Scott Sernau and Savanna Annis from the IU South Bend Office of International Studies, who helped coordinate the trip, and the staff at Santa Reparata International School of Art in Florence, Italy.
The opening will be celebrated with a reception from 4-6 pm followed by a Gallery Talk at 6 pm featuring the exhibiting students talking about their trip and experiences. The East Lounge is open daily from 7 am - 10 pm.
Magnitude 11 x 17 will be held in the East Lounge of Northside Hall at 1825 Northside Boulevard, South Bend, IN 46617. The East Lounge is open from 7 am - 10 pm. daily, and admission is free. For more information visit arts.iusb.edu or call 574.520.4203.
