Dean's Letter

Signs of spring are beginning to appear in South Bend, and the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts is winding down for the academic year. We are in the last month of classes along with final performances, lectures, and exhibitions. It has been quite a year for us, one filled with many memories and much excitement.

The first Fine Arts Weekend Celebration is approaching and you are invited to take part. From April 11 to 14, join us for the opening of BFA Student Art Exhibition III featuring the work of graduating Visual Arts and New Media students, our first High School Juried Photography Exhibition, and performances of the musical Pippin. Our students are involved at every level of this weekend with our newly formed Raclin School of the Arts Student Council heading up the high school photography exhibition.

This has been a big year for our faculty with many of them involved in performances, exhibitions, and lectures around the country and around the world. Their presence at various venues places the name of our school in the minds of others and shows that we have scholarly and artistically diverse faculty. They are the reason our students are viewed in such a favorable light. A huge bravo to them for the dedication they have to their craft.

The new Louise E. Addicott and Yatish J. Joshi Performance Hall is on track for transformation later this summer. We are excited about this new performance venue being completed by this time next year. You are invited to be a part of this exciting project through your gift of a new “seat.”

We are inspired by our students to continue our work as educators. We see the results in their artistic achievements and their scholarly endeavors. We aspire to create an atmosphere where more students can achieve greatness. We thank you for your continued support of the Raclin School of the Arts and Indiana University South Bend, and we look forward to seeing you during our Fine Arts Weekend.
