"Teddy Bear Concert" supports local charities
The South Bend Symphonic Choir and the school of the arts present the annual “Teddy Bear Concert” at 7:30 pm on Saturday, December 7. In its fifth year, the “Teddy Bear Concert” will support two local charities by distributing teddy bears collected at the concert to the Center for the Homeless and AIDS Assist of Northcentral Indiana.
The “Teddy Bear Concert,” directed by Dean Marvin Curtis, will showcase the choirs of IU South Bend presenting traditional holiday repertoire with selections by the South Bend Symphonic Choir, the IU South Bend Chamber Choir, Chorale, and Gospel Choir.
The finale will feature the combined voices of these four ensembles. Along with dancers from the IU South Bend Dance Company, the combined choirs will present the well-loved “Twas the Night Before Christmas” in the conclusion of this festive evening. The program will also include a tap presentation by the dance company’s kick line to music performed by the IUSB Jazz Ensemble.
Please bring a new teddy bear to the box office in exchange for your concert ticket. Teddy Bears will be distributed to the Center for the Homeless and AIDS Assist of Northcentral Indiana after the concert. AIDS Assist of Northcentral Indiana works to educate the community to practice prevention and assists those who have HIV. The Center for the Homeless is in its 25th year of operation, helping break the cycle of homelessness.
The teddy bears will be shared with the families of clients of these agencies to help promote a happy holiday season.
Admission to the “Teddy Bear Concert” is a new bear. Tickets will also be available for sale for $7-$12 through the box office. Box office hours are 11 am-6 pm Monday through Friday and one hour prior to the concert. For more information and to get tickets visit arts.iusb.edu or call 574-520-4203.
