BFA Student Exhibition II now open
Meet the artists and view the evocative artwork of our graduating fine arts and new media students at the BFA Student Exhibition II.
The BFA Exhibition is the capstone exhibition of our graduating students. The last three semesters of a BFA degree involve thesis classes that allow students to explore their area of expertise individually rather than in a classroom. These classes also require them to form a collection of works for their exhibit, which typically carries a common “from thought to frame, from classroom to gallery” theme the student chooses to focus on
The exhibition opened in the Art Gallery on Monday, March 31, and will run through Sunday, April 13. The reception is from 5-9 pm on Friday, April 4, with a gallery talk given by the students at 6 pm. The reception is presented in correlation with DTSB’s “First Fridays” event.
The exhibit will include a majority of work from within the students’ area of concentration. Guests can expect to see work from these students’ portfolios representing their career at IU South Bend. Participating students are expected to prepare their art for display, install the exhibition, and address their audience at the gallery talk.
Exhibiting students from the Fine Arts Department include Jay Borgaard, Amy Grovdhahl, Jeremy Jones, and Justin Kazmierzak representing painting and drawing, photography, and printmaking. From the New Media Department the exhibition will include Josh Boren, Kristin Bryant, Nicole Darrigan, and Ryan Weber in the concentrations of graphic design and new media.
Admission to the BFA Student Exhibition II is free of charge and open to the public. The Art Gallery is located in the Education and Arts Building at 1002 South Esther Street. The gallery is open 12-5 pm Monday through Saturday, with additional hours from 12-5 pm on Sunday, April 13, for the Fine Arts Weekend.
