IU South Bend hosts Fine Arts Weekend

Treat yourself to a staycation after this long taxing winter. A play, art exhibitions, and a music recital in the newly-renovated Louise E. Addicott and Yatish J. Joshi Performance Hall are all part of the second annual Fine Arts Weekend, hosted on the campus of IU South Bend.

From April 10 to April 13, the four-day event highlights the talents of our faculty and students and includes discounts at restaurants and the Inn at Saint Mary’s for a complete weekend package.

The IU South Bend Theatre and Dance Company present Cole Porter’s Broadway musical Kiss Me, Kate in the Campus Auditorium April 10-13. Feel the intensity of the Tony Award winning musical based on William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. The show concludes the theatre company’s season of works by or inspired by Shakespeare as part of the campus theme “Much Ado About Will: 450 Years of Shakespeare, and Counting.”

On Saturday, April 12, discover the talent of our music faculty at the Music Faculty Recital. The concert will be the first public performance to take place in the newly renovated Louise E. Addicott and Yatish J. Joshi Performance Hall. Be one of the first to experience this state-of-the-art venue. The program will include vocal and instrumental works, as well as the world premiere of one faculty member’s composition.

Guests will also have the opportunity to view two art exhibitions. The BFA Student Exhibition II is the capstone exhibition of the graduating fine arts and new media students featuring their finest works. The exhibition is held in the Art Gallery of the Education and Arts Building.

The Adams High School Art Show, located in the Chancellor's Reception Area on the 2nd floor of the Administration Building, is an exhibit by John Adams High School International Baccalaureate Program students, including drawings, paintings, mixed media artwork, ceramics, and sculpture.

The Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts thanks the South Bend Convention and Visitors Bureau for their support of the Fine Arts Weekend.
