Student violist wins young artists competition in Florida

Taisiya Sokolova has won the Imperial Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition in Lakeland, Florida. The piece she won with was Hindemith's "Der Schwanendreher."

Sokolova is a student violist at the school of the arts and a student of Luis Enrique Vargas, a member of the Euclid Quartet. She will receive a scholarship from the competition organizers for her achievement.

To compete, students were required to submit a video recording of themselves performing one complete movement of the work proposed for performance with piano accompaniment. Sokolova’s audition video is below. It was recorded in the Northside Hall Campus Auditorium at IU South Bend.
