Dean's Letter

dean marvin curtisMarch has arrived with snow and cold temperatures, but that does not stop activities at the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts.

We are busy exhibiting, planning, performing, and lecturing. Our schedule is full of exciting opportunities for our students to continue in their quest for excellence.

The past month saw many concerts, events, and firsts for our school. Four of our music students performed in the American Choral Directors Association Midwest Regional Collegiate Honor Choir. Students were also part of the National Association of Singing competition, winning top honors.  Our faculty composers had world premieres of their works nationally and internationally. Our faculty artists are exhibiting locally and nationally, while we prepare for Sean Zdenek’s appearance as our guest speaker for the Arts Lecture Series.

As we look forward to spring, we are planning the Fine Arts Weekend, April 10-13. Invite your friends from out of town to come and spend time in South Bend and enjoy the production of Kiss me Kate, a Music Faculty Recital, and the BFA Art Exhibition in our gallery.  Stay at the Inn at St. Mary’s at a special IU South Bend rate for a weekend of fun and fellowship. We invite you to take a tour of the campus, view our new facilities, and enjoy the talent of our students. There might even be a few surprises in store for you!

We continue to be grateful for the support you have given to the Raclin School of the Arts and we are always glad to have you come to the campus and be a part of what we do.  Remember, if you are an alumnus, to send us information about your accomplishments so we can place it in our next issue of Aspire magazine. Information can be sent to Director of Outreach Michele Morgan-Dufour at mmorgand@iusb.edu.  Seats are still available for purchase for the new Louise E. Addioctt & Yatish J. Joshi Performance Hall. Please contact Dina Harris at diharris@iusb.edu to memorialize a family member, recognize a friend, or show your company’s support for the arts through this special gift.

Thanks again for all you do. Your generosity inspires us to continue our work as we watch our students aspire for greater heights.
