Warm up with spring Jazz Ensemble performance
Come in from the cold and experience the IUSB Jazz Ensemble's spring concert on Wednesday, March 12. This student ensemble will share the stage with the IU South Bend Jazz Combo and the Twin Cities Jazz Orchestra. Darrel Tidaback directs all three ensembles.
The peformance begins at 7:30 pm in the Campus Auditorium of Northside Hall.
The concert will feature music by contemporary jazz composers Pat Metheny, Bob Mintzer, and Randy Brecker, including Metheny’s “Every Summer Night,” as well as Mintzer’s “Joshua” and “Freedom Song,” and Brecker’s “Tujica.”
The program will also include jazz standards and modern jazz classics by Miles Davis, Bill Holman, and Sammy Nestico, including Les Hooper’s arraignment of Cole Porter’s “I Love You.
Currently, Tidaback may be heard with jazz groups throughout the region and as a performer with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, the South Bend Chamber Singers, the Vesper Chorale, and the LaPorte County Symphony Orchestra. He has performed with such jazz luminaries as Rosemary Clooney, Bucky Pizzerelli, Gene Bertoncini, Mose Allison, Louis Belson, Don Menza, Ernie Watts, Marshall Royal, Bunky Green, Cal Collins, Alan and Warren Vache, Butch Miles, and the late Franz Jackson.
