Flute and Guitar Ensembles Present Joint Concert
"Love is in the Air" at the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts. The Indiana University South Bend Chorale and Chamber Choir present a spring concert featuring songs about love at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, April 19.
Michael S. Wade directs these ensembles whose treatment of love varies; romantic love, unrequited love, love of friends, love of country, love of a higher power.
Literature in the program will run the gamut. Renaissance madrigals by Morley, Farmer, di Lasso and Wilbye will begin the evening. There is even a humorous angle by P.D.Q. Bach. Also on the program are songs by contemporary composers Gwenyth Walker, Alberto Favero and Norman Dello Joio.
The Indiana University South Bend Chorale is a mixed chorus offered as an elective to all students enrolled at IU South Bend, regardless of their main emphasis of study. This is the major choral ensemble in the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts. Though primarily consisting of music majors and minors, students from numerous disciplines are enrolled in the chorus. The Chorale performs music of all periods and frequently present extended works in collaboration with other chorus' and instrumental ensembles. At IU South Bend they have sung Gustav Holsts' Christmas Day, Handel's Messiah, Part Iand the Robert Ray’s Gospel Mass. With the South Bend Symphony Orchestra they performed the world premier of Requiem for the Innocent by IU South Bend composer Jorge Muñiz in October of 2010, as well as Beethoven's 9th symphony, the chorus for "Broadway Rocks," and twice in the annual MLK Celebration concerts held on campus.
The Chamber Choir is a small ensemble of advanced voices. This is the newest music ensemble at IU South Bend. It was formed in the fall of 2010 by Director Michael S. Wade and debuted on the stage of the Campus Auditorium, Northside Hall in December 2010. The group specializes in music from the Renaissance, Baroque and Contemporary periods. Membership in this ensemble is gained through audition and/or invitation of the director. The Chamber Choir is available for performances as part of the community outreach program of the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts at Indiana University South Bend. David Brennan is the accompanist for both choirs.
Admission is free for students and children and $5-$9 for adults and senior citizens. For more information visit www.iusb.edu/arts or call the Box Office at 574.520.4203.
