Choirs present "All Praise to Music"
The Indiana University South Bend Chorale, Chamber Choir and Gospel Choir join voices on Friday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m. to present “All Praise to Music.” The concert will take place in the Campus Auditorium of Northside Hall and will feature each ensemble individually as well as several joint selections. CreAnne Mwale conducts the IU South Bend Gospel Choir and Michael S. Wade conducts the IU South Bend Chorale, and Chamber Choir.
“All Praise to Music” will include a variety of styles by the three student choral ensembles from IU South Bend. Music performed will run the gamut from Handel and Mozart to a Broadway selection, and of course, some “on your feet” gospel styling. The feature work of the evening will be a performance of Howard Hanson's “Song of Democracy” by the combined choirs.
CreAnne Mwale is the founder of the IU South Bend Gospel Choir which began in fall 2008. Since then they have performed in multiple annual concerts, including the “Teddy Bear Concert,” “MLK Celebration” concert with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, and “Lift Every Voice.” In March 2011 and 2012, the choir toured to North Carolina for a featured appearance at Holy Trinity United Holy Church in Greenville. Currently, Ms. Mwale is pursuing her Bachelor of Music Education degree and plans to one day become a professor of music.
Michael Wade conducts the IU South Bend Chorale and the Chamber Choir. The Chorale performed at the world premiere of Requiem for the Innocent with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra is 2010. The Chorale frequently presents extended works in collaboration with other choirs and instrumental ensembles. At IU South Bend they have sung Gustav Holsts' Christmas Day, Handel's Messiah, Part I; and the Robert Ray’s Gospel Mass. The Chamber Choir began in fall 2010 and debuted that December in the school’s annual “Teddy Bear Concert.” The group specializes in music from the Renaissance, Baroque, and Contemporary periods. Michael Wade was inducted into the Crown Point High School Teacher Hall of Fame in 2011 in recognition of 34 years of service. He has been teaching at IU South Bend since 2009.
