A new twist on an old favorite It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play

It's a Wonderful Life

The IU South Bend Theatre and Dance Company of the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts presents It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play in December.  The production will be presented in the Upstage of Northside Hall at 8 p.m. Thursday, December 1 through Saturday, December 3, at 4 p.m. Saturday, December 3, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 4.

While the presentation of It’s a Wonderful Life as a radio play “is not totally new, we are being faithful to the original screenplay,” says director John Sterchi.  Similar in the style of Garrison Keilor’s Prairie Home Companion the actors are not portraying the characters of the story but a company of radio theatre performers acting out the story.  Rather than focus on the season that surrounds the story the production will concentrate on the lessons and themes that it conveys: what would it be like if someone you loved had never been born, the worth of a man's life, and dreams - how are they realized, shattered, etc.

The performance will be a treat for attendees who will act as a live studio audience.  There will be commercial jingles, raffles, and special hellos to those listening at home.  Many of these special additions to the production will be amplified by the special arrangement with radio station WVPE 88.1, which has agreed to broadcast the production on their station at 7 p.m. on Friday, December 23.  The Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts at IU South Bend is thrilled to have this radio style production presented on our local NPR station, WVPE 88.1.
