Student Spotlight recital features top music students

The Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts at IU South Bend presents the first of a new tradition, the Student Spotlight Recital.  The recital will feature a selection of the most talented students at the school in a combined recital on Wednesday, December 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Campus Auditorium at Northside Hall.  Come out to get a taste of the student musical talent at the Ernestine M. Students interested in performing auditioned for the music faculty.  Selected students will perform on violin, cello, piano and voice.  David Brennan will open the concert on piano playing Liberstraum No. 3 by Franz List.  Two works by Sergei Prokofiev will be performed: Piano Concerto No. 1, Op. 10 by Dimitri Zhgenti and Ketevan Badridze, and Violin Sonata No. 2 in D Major by Grace Yoo, violinist and pianist Leah Dominy.  Cellist Kendrick Allenson will present Johannes Brahms’ Cello Sonata No. 1 in e minor with Dimitri Zhgenti on piano.

The program will also feature several vocal pieces.  Sopranos Michelle Torres and Dorèa Britton will sing "Sull'aria" Duettino fromLe nozze di Figaro by Mozart.  Mezzo-soprano Lauren Desrosiers will sing "Eisam in trüben Tagen" fromLohengrin by Wagner.  Torres will take the stage again to present “Caro nome” from Rigoletto by Verdi.   Rossini’s "Cruda sorte!" from L'Italiana in Algeri will be sung by soprano Mei Yang.  The concert will conclude with a quartet singing "Non ti fidar, o misera" from Mozart’s Don Giovanni.  Tamra Garrett, Lauren Desrosiers, Lawrence Mitchell-Matthews, and Ross Ford are the vocalists and Jennifer Muñiz will accompany the piece.
