IU South Bend Gospel Ensemble invited to North Carolina
The IU South Bend Gospel Ensemble has been invited to perform at the 90th Anniversary Celebration of Holy Trinity United Holy Church in Greenville, North Carolina this March. Bishop Ralph E. Love Sr. is pastor of the church. In preparation for their trip the IU South Bend Gospel Ensemble will hold a benefit concert at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church at 4 pm on Sunday, January 30, 2011.
The IU South Bend Gospel Ensemble was created in 2008 by CreAnne Mwale at the request of Music Professors David Barton and Alicia Purcell. In its first year the ensemble had eight student members. Now featuring over 25 members, the ensemble presents solo concerts and performs as part of the IU South Bend choral ensembles with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra.
Along with directed the IU South Bend Gospel Ensemble, CreAnne Mwale is music director at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Niles, Michigan. On stage she has performed as Mother in the 2009 production of Amahl and the Night Visitors produced by the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts, and Queenie in the production of Show Boat at Lake Michigan College. Mwale also participated in the South Bend Symphonic Choir’s appearance at The White House in December of 2009.
The benefit concert at 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 30 will feature traditional and contemporary gospel music. David Brock is the accompanist.
