Rex and Alice A. Martin Fellowship in Piano recital

Recipients of piano fellowships at the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts at IU South Bend will present a free recital on Friday, January 28.  The concert will take place in the Campus Auditorium of Northside Hall at 7:30 p.m.  Performers will include Misun Moon, recipient of the Rex and Alice A. Martin Fellowship in Piano, along with the recipients of the Martin Fellowship in Piano; Elisabed Imerlishvili, Ketevan Kartvelishvili, Ilya Vanichkin, and Anton Zotov.  These fellowships are supported by The Martin Foundation, Inc. of Naples, Fla. and Rex and Alice A. Martin Foundation of Elkhart, Ind.

The fellows will perform a selection of music for solo piano and conclude the concert with movements from Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3.  Ketevan Kartvelishvili will perform the second and third movements of this concerto with Ilya Vanichkin playing second piano.  Kartvelishvili was third prize winner at the 5th Marco Polo International Piano Competition in 1999 and performed with members of the Toradze Studio on a live broadcast of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s piano works on WFMT radio in Chicago last year.  Ilya Vanichkin was a prize winner at Citta di Barletta (2006), Corpus Christi (2007) and Chautauqua International Piano Competitions. 

Anton Zotov will perform Sonata for Piano in F Major by Mozart.  Zotov began playing piano at age six and earned his Bachelor of Music degree from Bowling Green State University while studying with Maxim Mogilevsky.  Elisabed Imerlishvili joined the Toradze Piano Studio in fall 2008.  She was awarded 3rd prize at the Marcopulon International Piano Competition "Konzerteum" in 2000.  Imerlishvili will perform Prokofiev’s Piano Sonata No. 2.  Misun Moon will present Carnaval by Schumann.  Moon, born in Seoul, South Korea, earned her bachelor’s degree in London and is working torward her master’s degree while studying in the Toradze Piano Studio.  She has received honors at the 2006 London Paganini Festival and 2007 Messiaen Music Festival.
