By Moira Dyczko
The Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts at IU South Bend and the LaSalle Grill will celebrate 20 years of excellence in the community on Saturday, June 11, 2011 with Crescendo. Crescendo will feature a distinctive atmosphere on each floor of the LaSalle Grill through the performing, visual and culinary arts. Indulge your senses at this event to remember.
Crescendo begins at 7 pm and will include a sampling of culinary delights and signature cocktails throughout the evening. Artwork by students, faculty, and emeritus faculty will adorn the LaSalle Grill; including works by Anthony Droege, Alan Larkin, Tuck Langland, Ron Monsma, Dora Natella, and Harold Zisla. In addition, theatre students in costumes from the recent production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be mingling with guests.
Guests will experience opera, piano and string classics on the first floor with performances by the Euclid Quartet, Paivi Ekroth and Vakhtang Kodanashvili of the Toradze Piano Studio, and Deborah Mayer and members of her vocal studio, among others. The second floor will highlight chamber music with performances by flute and guitar duo Rebecca Hovan and Matthias Stegmann, and the Flute Ensemble. In addition, there will be a comedic presentation by the Debate Team. Relax on the third floor with the IU South Bend student and faculty jazz combos, as well as performances of Middle Eastern, tap, modern, flamenco, swing and Latin dance by students and faculty.
Crescendo has been made possible in part through a major underwriting gift from Barbara Warner. Additional underwriters for this event include Crowe Horwath LLP, Randy and Kim Ferlic, and Carol and Craig Kapson. Proceeds from Crescendo will be directed toward an ArtsEverywhere matching grant from the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County to support the renovation of the Upstage Theater and Recital Hall. Patron tickets for Crescendo are available for $175 per person. Silver Patron tickets are available for $250 per person and include a listing in the Crescendo program.
