Gospel Choir to Perform Friday, October 22
The IU South Bend Gospel Choir of the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 21 in the Campus Auditorium of Northside Hall. CreAnne Mwale directs this ensemble made up of 28 students and community musicians interested in singing gospel music.
Formed in fall of 2008, the Gospel Choir made its debut in fall 2009. Since then they have performed in multiple concerts, including the Teddy Bear Concert, MLK Celebration concert with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, and Lift Every Voice. Last March the choir toured to North Carolina for a featured appearance at the 90th Anniversary Celebration of Holy Trinity United Holy Church in Greenville. Mwale has directed the Gospel Choir since its inception. When asked about the ensemble she said, “The students have been working hard and they are doing a tremendous job.”
CreAnne Mwale has been singing and playing the piano and organ since age 12. She began conducting gospel choirs in high school and now serves as a music minister at her church. Currently, Mwale is pursuing her Bachelor of Music Education degree and plans to one day become a professor of music.
