Toradze Piano Studio opens 2011-12 Season

The Toradze Piano Studio opens the 2011-12 performance season at the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts at IU South Bend with a recital at 7:30 pm on Friday, September 16.  The concert, featuring new members to the studio along with recent competition winners, will take place in the Campus Auditorium of Northside Hall.  The program will include masterworks by Bach, Haydn, Chopin, Liszt, and Brahms, among others.

Extraordinarily gifted Spanish pianist Ignasi Cambra and Macedonian pianist/composer join the studio this fall and make their debut as Toradze Piano Studio members.  The program will also include recent international piano competition winners Nikita Abrosimov (first prize, The World Piano Competition, Cincinnati, Ohio), Leahy Dominy (first prize in her age bracket, 2011 Indianapolis Matinee Musicale Collegiate Scholarship Competition, Indianapolis, Ind.), Ketevan Kartvelishvili (first prize, William C. Byrd Young Artists Competition, Piano Competition, Flint, Mich.), Misun Moon (first prize in her age bracket, 2011 Indianapolis Matinee Musicale Collegiate Scholarship Competition, Indianapolis, Ind.).

The Toradze Piano Studio was established in 1991 at IU South Bend with the appointment of Alexander Toradze as Martin Endowed Professor in Piano.  Soon it began touring as a piano ensemble-the first of its kind in the United States.  Toradze's idea of the "touring conservatory studio" is rooted in the Russian/European educational practice - and is filled as much with tradition as emotion.  The Toradze Piano Studio has provided both an educational environment for young musicians from many different countries as well as a performance platform for its more experienced members. The studio is equally unique as it comprises an extended family - with members sharing their lives, learning and performing together.

Tickets for the Toradze Piano Studio recital are available for $7-$12.  Students and children receive free tickets.  For more information visit or call the Arts Box Office at 574.520.4203.
