FlorenceStudents exhibit artwork from Florence, Italy summer program

Visual arts students will present an exhibition of their artwork from a recent trip to Florence, Italy in a show titled Magnitude 11 x17. The exhibition opens on Thursday, September 13, and runs through Friday, September 28 in the East Lounge in Northside Hall.

Students embarked on a one month trip overseas this past summer to study in Florence, Italy and surrounding areas. Participating students were Sarah DeMaegd, Jamie DePriest, Audra Dormire, Tiffany Gilbert, Rubia Hagens, Michelle Lilly, Katherine Marsh, Nicole Rininger, Rebecca Shaffer, Janet Sorensen, and Katie Swiental. Euclid Quartet Presents a Concert of Firsts

The Euclid Quartet, ensemble in residence at the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts at IU South Bend, will perform at 4 pm on Sunday, September 16. The concert entitled “Firsts” will take place in the Campus Auditorium of Northside Hall and will feature the first works for string quartet from three great composers. The selections are String Quartet in g minor, Op. 13 by Carl Nielsen, String Quartet No. 1 by Charles Ives, and Creole Contradanzas by Wynton Marsalis.

Tickets for the Euclid Quartet are available in advance to adults for $10 and to senior citizens for $7. Tickets are $2 more at the door and are free to students and children. For more information and to order tickets visit arts.iusb.edu or call the box office at 574.520.4203.

Toradze Piano Studio Performs September 21

The Toradze Piano Studio will perform at 7:30 pm on Friday, September 21 in the Campus Auditorium of Northside Hall, on the campus of IU South Bend. The studio, led by Martin Endowed Professor in Piano Alexander Toradze, is one of the many jewels within the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts at IU South Bend. This concert will feature new studio member Siwon Kim’s South Bend debut, as she plays alongside studio veterans Ignasi Cambra, Youngmi Choi, Ketevan Kartvelishvili, and Natasa Stojanovska.

Tickets for the Toradze Piano Studio are available for $7-$10 in advance and $9-$12 at the door. Students and children receive one free ticket with a valid student ID. For tickets or more information please visit arts.iusb.edu or call the box office at 574.520.4203.

Denyce GravesFamed soprano Denyce Graves on campus November 9-10

International opera superstar Denyce Graves will be at IU South Bend on November 9 and 10 for two days of exclusive performance and instruction. Her powerful mezzo-soprano voice has been heard in the world’s finest opera houses, on The Oprah Winfrey Show, and in the White House. Graves is particularly recognized by opera audiences for her title role performances in Carmen and Samson et Delila.

On Friday, November 9 at 7:30 p.m. she will give an exclusive solo performance in the Campus Auditorium of Northside Hall. On Saturday, November 10 at noon she will hold a two-hour masterclass for specially selected IU South Bend vocal students. The class will be open to the public for observation. The Ernestine M.
