Now that you are admitted, there are a few things you should do as soon as possible.
Set up your computer account
Go to http://itaccounts.iu.edu/ and log onto OneStart (https://onestart.iu.edu/) to authenticate your ID and password. Information about this was included in your admission packet that contained a brochure describing OneStart, a system that provides convenient access to IU Web services for students, faculty, and staff. Also included in your admission letter was your Student ID number that you will need to set up your account. If you need assistance, please contact our IT Helpdesk at 574-520-5555 or at Wiekamp Hall, room 1245. The Helpdesk personnel will be happy to assist you in setting up your account.
Take your placement examinationsThese must be completed prior to meeting your advisor or attending orientation. Refer to your admission packet to determine if any exams have been waived. Click here for exam reservations or call (574) 520-5005. Students who have previously studied French, German, Japanese, and/or Spanish are also encouraged to take the world language studies placement exam before enrolling in a language course at IU South Bend.

Register for New Student Orientation
Make a reservation for a New Student Orientation. Orientation is mandatory. A non-refundable fee is charged whether or not you attend orientation. Please make arrangements to register for classes before the orientation.
Make an appointment with your advisorAll entering freshmen/beginning students must meet with an advisor before registering for classes. Students who have not yet decided on a major should call 520-4537 to set up an advising appointment. Students who have decided on a major can find contact information for their major's advisor here. Your advisor we will talk with you about your plans, assist you in registering for classes, and answer questions adout general education requirements and degree requirements.
Think about possible Majors and MinorsNationally 50% of students are undecided when entering college. However, most majors have very specific requirements which must be completed before graduating, so the sooner you decide on a major, the sooner you start on your path to a degree. For more information about the different majors offered at Indiana University South Bend, and the requirements of each, click here.
Plan your scheduleYour advisor will help you with this. MAP is a visual guide which to help you keep track of campus-wide requirements and major-specific requirements. Undecided or Exploratory students can find a suggested first-year schedule here.
Register for classesAfter you meet with your advisor, you may register for classes through OneStart.
