Predental Hygiene Program

Students are admitted as predental hygiene students while they are completing prerequisite courses for the Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene. Professional Program

One class is admitted into the dental hygiene program each year to begin the course of study in the fall. Admission is determined by the Dental Hygiene Admission and Promotions Committee. An application for admission to the dental hygiene program must be completing and returned to the Office of Dental Education by March 1st for the BSDH (entry-level) for fall start. For the BSDH (degree completion) applications are accepted for all semester start dates. To begin on the BSDH completion degree in the fall semester applications are due August 1; spring semester applications are due November 1; and summer session I and II applications are due March 1.

Criteria for Admission Eligibility

Please Note: The Dental Hygiene Program at Indiana University South Bend will participate in the ADEA Dental Hygiene Centralized Application Service, known as DHCAS, beginning in August 2013. Applicants applying to the entry-level or degree completion  Dental Hygiene program will apply online using the DHCAS application in addition to the materials needed at each link for the IU South Bend Dental Hygiene Program. Students must be admitted or elibible for admission to Indiana University. Applications are sent to the IU South Bend Office of Admissions. If the student is in the IU system, but attending another IU campus an intercampus transfer will be required once the applicant is accpeted in to the dental hygiene professional program. Students that are non-IU students, must apply to IUSB prior to applying to the dental hygiene program.

Students must submit required admissions materials for the professional program to the Dental Hygiene Program.

Students must have all prerequisite courses completed with a C or better in each course.

Admissions Policies for BSDH (entry-level)

An IU South Bend admissions application should be submitted to the Office of Admissions. Upon formally being admitted to the university, students must meet with an advisor from the College of Health Sciences to set up an academic plan of study.

Admissions Policies for BSDH (degree completion)

Graduates from an accredited program holding the Associate of Science in Dental Hygiene (ASDH) and a current Indiana dental hygiene license must submit an application to be admitted to the Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene program after meeting with an advisor. The program director of Dental Education is the advisor for the BSDH completion program.
