Faculty Stipends

Faculty awarded course development grants will receive training and instructional support (e.g., instructional design, pedagogy, technology integration) from CDE, UCET and IMS staff (when necessary) in developing their distance education courses. Currently, one time stipends are awarded to the faculty member who develops the course.

Fully Online Courses (50% or more taught distance/online):

Faculty stipends for fully online course development are:

  • $5,000 for a 3-credit (or more) course
  • $3,250 for a 2-credit course
  • $2,250 for a 1-credit course

Hybrid/Blended Courses (less than 50% taught distance/online):

Faculty stipends for hybrid/blended course development are 50% of the funding for fully online courses:

  • $2,500 for a 3-credit (or more) course
  • $1,625 for a 2-credit course
  • $1,125 for a 1-credit course

The above definitions are for course development funding purposes only. For IU-wide definitions as of 9/2013, see below

  • Online All : 100% of instruction is provided through asynchronous online education in which the student is not bound by place or time.
  • Online Interactive : 76% to 99% of instruction is provided through online education.
  • Hybrid, Traditional : 26% to 75% of the instruction is provided through online education. The remainder of the instruction is provided through traditional face-to-face instruction.
  • Hybrid, Distance : 26% to 75% of the instruction is provided through online education. The remainder of the instruction is provided by distance education used to support synchronous interaction between the instructor and student.
  • Distance, Other : 76% or more of the instruction is provided by distance education used to support synchronous interaction between the instructor and student.
