Barb Thomas is a lecturer in elementary education and will move to assistant professor upon completion of her Ed. D. at Ball State University. She teaches general methods and literacy classes and is helping coordinate the graduate education leadership program this year. Barb has a B.A. in elementary education from Central College, M.S. in Special Education from IUSB and a Ed. S. in School Administration from IU Bloomington. She has been a teacher and school administrator in public schools. Research interests include the principal as a literacy leader and mentoring new teachers and principals into the profession.

Educational Background

Barb has an Ed.D in Educational Leadership with a cognate in General Studies Curriculum and Reading from Teachers College Ball State University
Other Degrees include an Ed.S. in School Administration from Indiana University Bloomington, an M.S in Special Education from Indiana University South Bend, and a B.A in Elementary Education with a minor in Music from Central College in Pella, IA. Prior to coming to IUSB Barb served as a general and special education teacher, special education resource consultant, autism specialist and teacher trainer, assistant principal, principal, and government funded program director over the course of 32 years in public education.

Research Interest

Research interests include Literacy Instructional Leadership, Collaborative Field and Student Teaching Models, Literacy Instruction for Young Children, and Effective Assessment in the Elementary School with emphasis on Literacy.
