All first-time students must take placement exams in reading, mathematics, and English unless otherwise indicated. Some exams may be waived based on your available SAT scores or previous college coursework. For questions regarding your need to take placement exams, please contact the Admissions Office. There is no fee for taking placement exams. Go to the Office of Student Services for current exam schedules, sample test questions, and upcoming placement preparation workshops.
IU South Bend Elkhart Center placement exams dates can be found on the placement exam web site. Exams at the Elkhart Center are usually held on Friday afternoons with the reading exam beginning at 1:00 p.m., math at 2:00 p.m., and English at 2:30 p.m. Reservations are required. Incoming students who need to take placement exams must take the exams before attending orientation.
What to Bring
You should arrive 10 minutes prior to the scheduled start time of the exam as late arrivals will not be seated. Please bring the following items: a picture ID, a pencil, a calculator (if you are taking the math exam), and your ten digit student ID number which is located on your admissions certificate.
Placement tests in Elkhart are given at the Elkhart Center located at 125 East Franklin Street, Elkhart, IN. Parking is available in the parking lot located behind the building or in the upper level of the Marion Street parking garage. Placement exams are given in the computer lab located on the second floor, room 205.
