Getting Started

Admission

Students must be formally admitted to IU South Bend before they can register for classes at the Elkhart Center. For specific admission requirements, go to the Office of Admissions or call (574) 520-4872. Application, financial aid, and scholarship information are available at the Elkhart Center. New student packets are available at 125 E. Franklin Street during regular office hours.

Chris Weingart is IU South Bend Elkhart Center's Admission Counselor. She has office hours at the Elkhart Center generally on a Wednesday or Thursday afternoon from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Call for an appointment at (574) 520-4839 or contact her at cweingar@iusb.edu

Placement Testing

Incoming students must take any required placement exams as determined by the Admissions Office. Placement test scores are then used to place students in courses appropriate to their skill level. The placement exam website provides additional information.

Financial Aid/Scholarships

To maximize financial aid eligibility and receive consideration for both state and federal aid, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)  by April 15. For applications submitted after April 15, students are considered only for federal aid. For financial aid questions contact the Office of  Financial Aid at 574-520-4357 or email sbfinaid@iusb.edu.

Scholarship information is available on the scholarship website. To access the more than 200 IU South Bend and IU Foundation scholarship opportunities, students must complete the  Online Scholarship Application  (OSA) no later than March 1 each year. Elkhart County offers several scholarships exclusively to students who reside in Elkhart County.
