Placement Exams

Placement exam results are used to place students in courses appropriate to their skill level. All required exams must be completed prior to attending New Student Orientation or registering for classes.

Reading

Most students are required to take the reading placement exam. However, you are waived from taking this if:

You took the SAT exam within the last three years and your score on the critical reading section is 480 or higher.

You are a transfer student with 26 or more credit hours.

Mathematics

The mathematics exam is required of all first-time students. Transfer students may be waived from the mathematics exam if they have taken a math course equivalent to an IU South Bend 100-level mathematics course at another college.

English

The English exam is not required for all students. Click here to determine if you need to take this exam.

World Language Studies

Students who have studied French, German, Japanese, and/or Spanish are encouraged to take the World Language Studies exam for placement purposes.
