Types of Financial Aid

Most aid is based on need as determined by the Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The most common forms of student aid are:

Scholarships- Scholarships can play a very important part in making your college education affordable and attainable.  We encourage you to begin your search for scholarships early, pay close attention to deadlines and ask questions along the way.  Many Scholarship opportunities are available to our IU South Bend students.

Grants- Grants are tuition assistance awards available from the federal or state government. Eligibility is based on income, household size, and the number of dependents in college.

Work Study- Part-time employment on campus or off campus at approved sites during academic year or summer.

Loans- Money borrowed from a financial institution, the Federal Government, or the university to pay for college expenses. To be considered, students must request loan funds via FAFSA.
