Statewide Transfer General Education Core (STGEC)

The Statewide Transfer General Education Core (STGEC) enables a student who satisfactorily completes an approved program of general education in any one of Indiana’s public institutions of higher education to transfer that coursework to any other state educational institution as a block of 30 credit hours towards the general education core requirement.

STGEC at IU South Bend

To fulfill the STGEC at IU South Bend with the intention to transfer to another Indiana state institution of higher education, students are required to complete the following courses from the IUSB General Education Curriculum with a cumulative STGEC  gpa of 2.0 or higher:


Oral Communication

Quantitative Reasoning

Critical Thinking

Computer Literacy

Literary and Intellectual Traditions or Arts, Aesthetics, and Creativity (T190/T191/T192 or A190)

Human Behavior and Social Institutions B190

The Natural World N190

Non-western cultures

Diversity in U.S. society

Certification of satisfactory completion of the IUSB-articulated STGEC will be noted on the student’s transcript.
