General Studies students are encouraged to include minors and/or certificates as part of their Bachelor of General Studies (B.G.S.) degree. A minor expands student learning and job opportunities, and even chances of getting into a professional or graduate school. That’s because minors allow students to develop a good understanding of an additional academic discipline without having to go through the extra time and expense of a double major. A minor usually requires five to seven courses in a specific academic discipline and requirements vary by department. The sooner you investigate the options and requirements for minors, the easier it will be to build them into your B.G.S. degree.
