Desk Clerks (DCs) are student staff members who work colloboratively with Resident Assistants and Housing and Residence Life professional staff members. The Desk Clerks (DCs) maintain the operations of the front desk, while school is in session. DCs help to build community by creating a welcoming environment by greeting students as they enter the community building. These student staff can field resident concerns, provide general information resources for students and guests and ensure safety and security by enforcing residential policies.
Students selected to serve as DCs participate in intensive training, and are highly qualified to provide support and guidance to residents.
Desk Clerks (DCs) are an integral part of the Housing and Residence Life team. The Desk Clerks position is more than a typical on-campus student employment. Being a DC gives a student the unique opportunity to work colloboratively with the resident assistant staff in creating a positive living community within our campus residence halls. The DC position also allows students the opportunity to develop and strengthen their leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. As important staff members of the River Crossing student housing community, all returning and newly hired staff members are required to participate in fall and winter training programs and activites in conjunction with the Resident Assistant staff.
