Each residential house on campus typically has one resident assistant who works with the students who resides in the entryway. Depending on the area on campus where you reside, you can be sure there is always an RA nearby.
Resident assistants promote community, answer questions about the university and campus life, plan social and educational events, assist with roommate/apartment concerns, and help residents feel welcome at Indiana University South Bend. Students selected to serve as resident assistants participate in several weeks of intensive training, and are highly qualified to provide support and guidance to residents.

HOW TO BECOME AN RA
STEP 1: Attend the RA Informational Sessions
During the month of January, Housing and Residence Life will be hosting several RA Informational Sessions to provide candidates with more information about the position and selection process. Each session will be led by the Residence Coordinator and members of the Housing and Residence Life Resident Assistant student staff team, who will be able to answer all of your questions as well as provide some insight and advice for candidates. Below is the schedule for this year's information sessions:
STEP 2: Complete the RA Application
Please read the Resident Assistant Position Description before completing the RA Application form.
Applications are available now online.
The Residence Life Professional Staff will carefully read each application before sending out invitations to participate in the spring group process and individual interview days.
STEP 3: Acquire Two References
A reference from a current RA and a reference from a former or current employer, supervisor, academic instructor, or coach are required components of the application process. All completed reference forms are due to Housing and Residence Life on Friday, January 29, no later than 5 pm.
STEP 4: Participate in the Group Process and Interview Days 2016
All candidates who have successfully completed the steps listed above and meet all other criterias to be eligible for the RA position, wil be invited to participate in the Group Process and Individual Interview Days.
The Group Process Interview Day will be held on Saturday, February 6 in the University Grill/Fireside Lounges.
All Individual Interviews will be held during the following weeks: Monday, February 1 - Thursday, February 4 and Monday, February 9 - Thursday, February 11. You will be contact during the Spring semester with information on the date of the group process and individual interview.
Below is a timeline of the selection process for the RA position for the 2016-2017 academic year. Some of the dates are suggested to help you with the planning process throughout the academic year. Please be advised that any dates are subject to change. It is your responsibility to make note of these changes after hearing from a professional staff member from the Office of Housing and Residence Life at Indiana University South Bend.

Monday, January 11 - Sign up begins for RA Individual Interviews (Candidate can sign up for a date and time at the Community Building Front Desk)
Wednesday, January 20 - New RA Information Session (5:00 pm – Fireside Lounge (Across from the Grille))
Thursday, January 21 - New RA Information Session (8:00 pm - Housing Community Building)
Thursday, January 29 - RA Applications due to the Office of Housing and Residence Life (completed applications can be turned in at the Community Building Front Desk)
Monday, February 1 - Thursday, February 4 - New RA Individual Interview Week
Saturday, February 6 - RA Group Interview Day - 9 am - 3pm (tentative) in the Grille (New RA Applicants ONLY)
