These awards are intended to encourage undergraduate and graduate students at IU South Bend to enhance their education through study abroad. Applicants may be majors in any academic field.


Applicants must:

  1. be a degree seeking student enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program on the IU South Bend campus,
  2. have a minimum 2.75/4.0 IU grade point average and be in good academic standing,
  3. enroll in a minimum of three credits in an IU South Bend based,OSAC approved, overseas studies or exchange program. Preference will be given to applicants who:
    1. have not previously lived outside the United States for an appreciable period of time,
    2. are enrolled in one of the shorter-term programs.

Application requirements:

  1. Applicants must provide a signed statement of purpose which will address both of the following:
    1. describe how the foreign studies program will contribute to their overall academic, career and personal goals,
    2. explain why this scholarship is necessary to enable them to participate in the program,
  2. provide a letter of recommendation from an IUSB faculty member who can evaluate their potential to succeed in and benefit from this overseas study program,
  3. provide a current unofficial IU South Bend academic transcript.


The amount of the award is expected to be $500. Several will be offered each year to the top applicants as funding allows.
