OneSearch: What am I searching?
OneSearch by EBSCO Discovery Service is a next generation research tool provided by the IU South Bend Libraries. It is accessible from the library home page or by clicking the direct link here.
Below is an FAQ to get you started, but please don't hesitate to Ask a Librarian if you have other questions.
What is it?
OneSearch is a resource discovery tool that collectively searches almost all of our library resources. In other words, rather than searching IUCAT for books, Credo Reference for encyclopedias, and Academic Search Premier for peer-reviewed journal articles, you can use OneSearch and receive results from all of the above.
What does it do?
Technically-speaking, OneSearch provides a centralized index for most of our library resources. Although this is an EBSCO product, your search results will include resources from outside of EBSCO.
Below is an example of library resources includes in OneSearch:
- Academic Search Premier
- IUCAT (Library catalog)
- Credo Reference
- CINAHL Plus with Full Text
Is OneSearch going to replace the subject-specific databases I already know and like?
No. OneSearch is especially useful in introductory classes and for interdisciplinary topics. We are not planning to cancel any subject-specific databases and encourage you to continue using them as appropriate. Think of this as an addition to and an alternate way to search our collection, not as a replacement for anything we already have.
