The Martin Luther Celebration Concert with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, in the IU South Bend Campus Auditorium. It will be an evening of inspirational music from African American composers.
The guest artist will be 16-year-old cellist Lev Mamuya. He is the 2013 Junior Laureate Sphinx Competition winner. The Detroit music competition supports diversity in the arts.
Mamuya had his first solo recital at age 5 and has performed with a number of orchestras including the Boston Pops. He is from West Roxbury, Mass.
Local baritone David Buggs will be the narrator. Marvin Curtis, dean of the Ernestine Raclin School of the Arts at IU South Bend, will direct the South Bend Symphonic Choir, IUSB choral and the IU South Bend Gospel Choir.
