The Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts at IU South Bend presents the third annual Doloris C. Cogan IU South Bend Summer Theatre Series. This series will feature two fully staged theatre productions and a presentation by the IU South Bend Dance Company at the Lerner Theatre in Elkhart running from June through August.
The series opens with “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)” on June 12, continues in July with a children’s adaptation of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” on July 10 and the series will conclude with “A Celebration of Dance” on August 7.
The Doloris C. Cogan IU South Bend Summer Theatre Series began in 2012 with a gift from Ms. Cogan of Elkhart, which enables IU South Bend to bring three to five productions to the Lerner Theater each summer for perpetuity. About the gift Cogan said, “This is an opportunity to bring IU South Bend, the Lerner Theatre, and the people of Elkhart together to learn and enjoy the arts.”
The series will kick off with “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)” by Adam Long, Daniel Singer, and Jess Winfield at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 12.. Three overachieving actors plus 99 minutes plus Shakespeare’s entire dramatic cannon equals a hilarious tour de farce of epic proportions. One of the world’s most frequently produced plays has been raucously updated for the 21st century and is presented to you here in all of its slapstick, door-slamming, people falling glory.
At 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Thursday, July 10 bring the children out for a family-friendly adaptation of Shakespeare’s beloved comedy, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Our play features a group of high school actors preparing to stage the story of Pyramus and Thisbe. Their play within a play is complicated by their interactions with the fairies who inhabit a moonlit forest.
The series concludes with the “A Celebration of Dance” at 7:30 pm on Thursday, August 7. he performance will feature a selection of dance styles showcasing the variety of dance offered at the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts and the talents of the IU South Bend Dance Company.
Tickets are available through the Lerner Theatre Box Office at www.thelerner.com or 800-294-8223. Ticket prices are $8-$18 for individual performances.
