It will all add up to some fun.
The School of Education, Schurz Library and the Wiekamp Educational Resource Commons, IU South Bend, are sponsoring a three-day math camp from June 18-20 from 1 to 4 p.m.
The camp will be in the Dorothy J. Wiekamp Educational Resource Commons, Education and Arts Building, Room 2010.
Marilyn Nash, mathematics curriculum coordinator for the South Bend Community School Corp., said about 20 to 30 children from grades 4 to 6 are participating.
The camp will focus on the basic skills, fractions, geometry and measurement concepts through activities and games.
“The camp has been discussed for a number of years and this was the year it fell into place,” Nash said. “Every year I get calls from parents asking for math camps. Many camps are far too expensive for most families.”
The cost for this camp is $50.
South Bend teachers have volunteered to teach along with Wiekamp staff. In creating a fun way to learn, Nash said, they hope to remove the math phobia factor that exists with some children. “I think we can create some excitement for math and send home some enrichment packets for the rest of summer.”
