Shepherd Named Associate Dean in School of Education
Terry Shepherd, Associate Professor of Special Education and Department Chair, Professional Education Services, has been named the Associate Dean for Academic Programs in the School of Education at Indiana University South Bend. Shepherd will oversee academic programs in the School of Education and lead the development and advancement of new programs aligned with IU South Bend’s academic master plan. Shepherd will also work with the Office of Distance Education to increase online education in the school. He recently developed the Master of Educational Leadership program that has a significant online component.
“In his new role, Dr. Shepherd will continue to provide strong leadership in the area of curricular innovation,” said, Marvin Lynn, Dean of the School of Education. “His experience will help the School of Education meet the educational needs of the community and local schools systems.”
Shepherd has been at IU South Bend since 2007 and spent the last seven years as Department Chair for the Professional Educational Services Department which houses the Educational Leadership; Health, Physical Education, and Recreation (HPER); and U100 programs. He also supervised the Counseling and Special Education program. “I am excited for the opportunity to work with faculty, staff and administration to develop online courses and innovative programs that will help make the School of Education the premiere choice for many individuals in our region,” said Shepherd.
Shepherd has a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science Education from Indiana State University, Master’s Degree in Education from IU South Bend, and a Doctor of Education from Ball State University. He was a faculty member at Texas A&M International University in Laredo, Texas, from 1998-2007.
