The Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts presents the fourth annual Doloris C. Cogan IU South Bend Summer Theatre Series. This series will feature two fully staged theatre productions and a presentation by the IU South Bend Dance Company at the Lerner Theater in Elkhart, running from May through July.
The series opens with “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” on Thursday, May 21 at 7:30 pm. This musical by Rachel Sheinkin & William Finn is described as a hilarious tale of overachievers’ angst chronicling six adolescents vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. (This production contains mature content.)
On Thursday, June 11, at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm, the series continues with “Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse,” a children’s theatre production based on the books by Kevin Henkes. This family friendly event features the character of Lilly, as she balances her love of school with her distress after being singled out in class.
“A Celebration of Dance” will conclude the series on Thursday, July 9 at 7:30 pm. This features the IU South Bend Dance Company presenting a variety of dance styles.
The Doloris C. Cogan IU South Bend Summer Theatre Series was established in 2012 with a gift from Ms. Cogan of Elkhart, which gives IU South Bend the opportunity to bring three to five fully-staged productions to the Lerner Theater throughout the summer.
Tickets are available through the Lerner Theater Box Office at www.thelerner.com or 800-294-8223. Ticket prices are $8-$18 for individual performances.
