If you will transfer to IU South Bend with less than 12 transferrable credits, you must meet the Academic Preparation and Secondary School Graduation requirements listed here, as well as the English Proficiency Language Documentation requirement. You should submit your secondary school transcripts along with your post-secondary transcripts.
If you will transfer to IU South Bend with 12 transferrable credits or more, you must have at least a 2.0 on a 4.0 grading scale. You are exempt from the English Proficiency Language Documentation requirement only after completing 24 credits at a U.S. educational institution.

To ensure timely processing, please take note of our priority dates. Although we will accept applications throughout the year, missing the priority date may delay your admission until the following semester.
Applicants are periodically notified by email of their admission status. All required information should be received to guarantee the receipt of required immigration documents. The priority dates for each semester are:

The $65 application fee is required of all applicants and is non-refundable. You may make payment at the time you submit your electronic application by using your credit card. If you have any difficulties with the payment portion of the application process, please contact the Office of International Student Serivces at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Once we have received your application, we will send instructions for establishing an IStart account. You must upload your official academic records through IStart, then you must arrange to submit the original, official documents, including work already completed and work currently in progress, directly to IU South Bend. The records should show a complete list of courses taken, grades received, and any diplomas or certificates earned. Transcripts should also indicate the number of credits awarded for each course or the number of hours of classroom, lecture, and laboratory and include information about the school's grading scale. Once again, you must upload your academic records to IStart first, then the original, official documents must be sent to the Office of International Student Services directly from your secondary school or college.

If English is not your native language, you must demonstrate proficiency in English before you can be admitted to IU South Bend. While TOEFL is the preferred method of documentation, there are many ways to meet this requirement. Please note that transfer students with 24 transferrable credits are exempt from the English Proficiency Language Documentation requirement. All transfer students must sit for the IU South Bend English Language Proficiency Placement Exam unless the equivalent of W-131 English Composition has been successfully completed prior to enrollment.
Students who have not yet met this requirement may apply for "Conditional Admission." If applying for Conditional Admission, please indicate that you would like to apply for "Conditional Admission." Applicants, who meet the academic requirements, will be issued a conditional acceptance letter. Students will not be fully admitted until the English language proficiency requirement is met.
Non-U.S. residents: Submit a photocopy of your passport page showing your name and date of birth. If you are currently in the U.S., submit a photocopy of your I-94 Arrival/Departure Record and visa stamp.
U.S. residents, refugees, or asylees: Your most recently issued U.S. immigration document such as Resident Alien Card or USCIS Approval Notice.
Review restrictions on study for certain visa holders (B-1/B-2, F-1 OPT, F-2, J-1).
If you are requesting an I-20 in order to obtain a student visa, you must submit documentation of financial support proving that sufficient funds are available to cover all study and living expenses for the first year of study. Documentation must be less than 12 months old at the start of your study program and may be submitted in the following formats:
- An original or certified true bank statement or scholarship letter. See the following link for other acceptable financial documents.
- Privately sponsored students must submit an Declaration of Financial Support from the individual named on the financial documents.
Government-sponsored students must submit an official letter from the government specifying the terms of the scholarship and addressed to IU South Bend.
