Parents and Guests

Although parents are not required to attend New Student Orientation, we encourage parents to accompany their student, particularly those sending a student to college for the first time. Orientation is a time of transition not only for the student, but also for those individuals closest to the student, whether they be parents, grandparents, legal guardians, spouses, or significant others. Our Parent and Guest Orientation runs concurrent with the New Student Orientation program. There is no additional cost for family members to attend, although we ask that you limit your number of guests to 2 people (note: the Non-Traditional Student Orientation program is restricted to students only).

Please note that parents and other guests will not remain with students during the New Student Orientation program following the general welcome. We feel it is critical for our new students to become familiar with the IU South Bend campus and to meet and interact with other students, faculty, and staff, and register for classes independently of their parents.
