Welcome to Indiana University South Bend

We are genuinely pleased to welcome you to IU South Bend. As a new student—whether a recent high school graduate, a transfer student from another university, or an adult entering college for the first time—you join a unique campus community. With its diverse and talented student body, excellent faculty, and beautiful campus, IU South Bend offers you an exciting learning environment.

Becoming a college student brings many challenges. In the months ahead you will discover new classroom styles, hear new terminology, and manage your life in new ways. We hope this Web site will give you information and insights to help you make a smooth transition to college life.

Probably the most important thing you can do to ease your transition to college is to create vital connections with faculty, staff, and other students. Research has shown that becoming involved in campus life increases academic success. The more people you get to know, the more resources you will have when problems arise. We especially encourage you to take the time to get to know your advising unit and to make it your “academic home.”

As your days fill up with studying, working, and other commitments, do not forget to take the opportunity to enjoy this special time in your life. Take advantage of IU South Bend’s concerts and art exhibits. Try out the equipment in our new Student Activities Center. Go to a basketball game or join intramurals. Talk with a friend in Northside Hall's courtyard or take a picnic down to the river. The buildings, people, and resources at IU South Bend are here for you.

All of us—staff, administrators, and faculty—are eager to provide the information, advice, and support you need to reach your academic and career goals, so do not hesitate to contact us for assistance. We look forward to working with you and getting to know you.

Best wishes for an enjoyable and successful college experience.
